Statement of Research
Our research focuses on developing the most effective training materials and resources to help educators implement argument visualization into their classrooms. This work builds on the research underway in other philosophy departments such as Princeton and Carnegie Mellon, where preliminary findings show that intensive practice with mapping arguments significantly improves the analytical thinking and writing skills of college freshmen. We seek to expound upon these promising results to explore applications of mapping in classrooms and online. In particular, we help students remotely practice and develop critical thinking skills using Mastery Learning. We hope to contribute to the body of research supporting the effectiveness of Mastery Learning in helping students develop skills at their own pace and close achievement gaps.
