Jen Nguyen, A PhD candidate in the Department of Philosophy, recently published "Leibniz on Place" in [The Leibniz Review](https://www-pdcnet-org.ezp-prod1.hul.harvard.edu/collection/authorizedshow?id=leibniz_2018_0028_0043_0066&pdfname=leibniz_2018_0028_0000_0044_0067.pdf&file_type=pdf). Nguyen's article argues that Liebniz--contrary to his contemporaries Locke and Newton as well as to slightly later philosophers like Berkeley and Du Chatelet--held the view that place is prior to space. The reversal of the space-place priority then motivates Nguyen's argument that Leibniz--again in opposition to his contemporaries--"abandons the thought that point of view presupposes place." For Leibniz, "point of view serves as the metaphysical foundation for the places defended by his peers."
