After discussing the motivations for his new book, A Realistic Blactopia: Why We Must Unite to Fight, the inspiration found in the black radical political tradition, and after summarizing the main argument, Professor Derrick Darby will explain why he's doubtful about the prospect of securing black reparations – as currently imagined – in the United States, and why such doubt is not as troubling as one might think.

 

BIO: Philosophy guest speaker, Dr. Derrick Darby is a Henry Rutgers professor of philosophy at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. He is the founding director of the Rutgers Social Justice Solutions Research Collaboratory and also directs its renowned Summer Institute for Diversity in Philosophy founded by Howard McGary, Jr.
