Tommie Shelby Elected to American Academy of Arts & Sciences

Caldwell Titcomb Professor of African and African American Studies and of Philosophy Tommie Shelby has been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Shelby is one of twelve new members of the Philosophy and Religious Studies section of the Academy.

The American Academy of Arts and Sciences is an honorary society, founded in 1780, that "honors excellence and convenes leaders from every field of human endeavor to examine new ideas, address issues of importance to the nation and the world, and work together 'to cultivate every art and science which may tend to advance the interest, honor, dignity, and happiness of a free, independent, and virtuous people.'"

The Department of Philosophy warmly congratulates Professor Shelby on receiving this honor.
