Research: This centers on pleasure/happiness and its place in mind and value. It involves engaging with relevant sciences and studies of mind and value and their histories, from Buddhist meditation literature and Plato to contemporary neuroscience. I began graduate school at Princeton intending to become a philosopher of science, gravitated to philosophy of mind, then philosophy of psychology, and spent a long time writing an ambitious dissertation, eventually completed under Saul Kripke. While this was soon under contract with Cambridge, the neuroscience that I was interpreting and my view of it changed, as did the Press's interest. During this year I plan to return to that project after completing a revision of my Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy entry, "Pleasure", last revised in 2016.
