The Human Flourishing Program and the Department of Philosophy at Harvard University cordially invite you to join Agnes Callard for a philosophical investigation of conversation, controversy, and disagreement. Professor Callard’s lecture will be followed by a time of Q&A. Students are welcome.
Title: “Socrates and the Lost Art of Refutation”
Agnes Callard is an Associate Professor in Philosophy at the University of Chicago. She received her BA from the University of Chicago in 1997 and her PhD from Berkeley in 2008. Her primary areas of specialization are Ancient Philosophy and Ethics. She is the author of Aspiration: The Agency of Becoming (Oxford, 2018) and a regular column in The Point Magazine. She is also the creator of the popular “Night Owls” series of late-night philosophical discussions for Chicago undergraduates.
