Graduate student Megan Entwistle won the prize for best submission at the Francophone Society for Analytic Philosophy (SoPHa)'s Workshop for Young Researchers held at the University of Geneva from May 30-June 2, 2022. Her paper and talk titled “The Epistemological Challenge for Simulationism,” won out of 15 sessions on this year’s topic of Mental States and their Epistemic Roles.

The Philosophy Department congratulates Ewa Bigaj, Zoe Jenkin, Ronni Sadovsky, and David Thorstad on receiving the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in May 2020.

This coming year, Ewa Bigaj plans to focus on painting, writing, and translating poetry.

Zoe Jenkin is very grateful for a wonderful time in the PhD program at Harvard. She'll miss all of her friends and colleagues, but she is excited to start her new job as an Assistant Professor at Washington University in St. Louis....

Doctoral student Zoe Jenkin was recently awarded the Bechtel Prize by the Harvard University Department of Philosophy for her essay "The Epistemic Role of Core Cognition." Doctoral student Sandy Diehl was recently awarded the Bowen Prize by the Harvard University Department of Philosophy. The prize, established in 1938 by a bequest from Miss Maria Bowen as a memorial to her father who held the Alford professorship of Natural Religion, Moral Philosophy, and Civil Polity from 1853 to 1889, is awarded annually for the best essay upon a subject in moral or political philosophy. The Bechtel Prize is funded through the generosity of Edwin Bechtel and is awarded to a graduate and undergraduate annually for the best essays on any philosophical subject. The Bowen Prize was established in 1938 by a bequest from Miss Maria Bowen as a memorial to her father, Francis Bowen, who held the Alford professorship of Natural Religion, Moral Philosophy, and Civil Polity from 1853 to 1889. Two of the department's graduate students were recently named Edmond J Safra Graduate Fellows for the 2017-18 academic year. Diana Acosta-Navas and Noel Dominguez will join six other Safra Graduate Fellows in the fall. In addition to working on their research projects, the fellows will particpate in a weekly seminar devoted to the reading of selected works in moral and political philosophy and discussion of "research problems and strategies common to the study of practical and professional ethics." The Department of Philosophy offers its warm congratulations to Diana and Noel.
