Amartya Sen to give opening conversation at a Qawwali Celebration of South Asia: 75 Years of Azadi

Amartya Sen, Thomas W. Lamont University Professor and Professor of Economics and Philosophy, will take part in the opening conversation with Syed Babar Ali at a “Qawwali Celebration of South Asia: 75 Years of Azadi.” The concert, hosted by The Mittal Institute at Harvard University, celebrates 75 years of South Asian independence from British colonial rule. Qawwali is a uniquely South Asian musical tradition that is widely popular in the region and around the world.

The concert will take place on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at the Sanders Theater and features Fareed Ayaz, Abu Muhammad Qawwal & Brothers, and an opening conversation between Nobel-prize winner, Professor Amartya Sen, and philanthropist and former finance minister of Pakistan, Syed Babar Ali, who will share their thoughts on the past 75 years of independence.
