Amartya Sen Wins 2020 Peace Prize of the German Book Trade

The German Publishers and Booksellers Association has awarded the 2020 Peace Prize of the German Book Trade to Professor Amartya Sen.  The award ceremony will take place on Sunday, October 18, 2020, in Frankfurt's Paulskirche. 

The statement of the jury noted “the association and its members have chosen to pay tribute to a pioneering scholar who has addressed issues of global justice for decades and whose work to combat social inequality in education and healthcare is as relevant today as ever.” Previous winners included Margaret Atwood, Jürgen Habermas, Václav Havel, Yehudi Menuhin, Orhan Pamuk, Susan Sontag, among others.
