The Department of Philosophy congratulates Professor Gina Schouten on the publication of her new book, Liberalism, Neutrality, and the Gendered Division of Labor (Oxford University Press, 2019). Schouten's book engages questions of whether state interventions to subsidize gender egalitarian lifestyles can be defended within a pluralistic, liberal society in which often profound differences exist regarding feminist aims. Schouten argues that they can and "that they can even by the lights of political liberalism, a particularly demanding theory of liberal legitimacy."
