On Tuesday, May 7th, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Claudine Gay announced that Professor Edward J. ("Ned') Hall,  Norman E. Vuilleumier Professor of Philosophy, would join four other Harvard faculty members as Harvard College Professors.

Launched in 1997 through a generous gift from John and Francine Loeb, the Harvard College Professorships provide five years of support for new research and scholarly activity.

Hall plans to use his time as a Harvard College Professor to continue development of a course called "Reclaiming Argument," which aims to help students identify "why public disagreement so often seems to get us nowhere" and to provide them with skills and tools for addressing disagreement more effectively and respectfully.
