Nine department members recognized for teaching excellence
The Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning at Harvard announced its list of recipients of awards for distinguished teaching during the spring of 2017. Eight graduate students in the Department of Philosophy received Certificates of Distinction for their work as Teaching Fellows. They are:
  • Jen Nguyen: Culture and Belief 31, “Saints, Heretics, and Atheists: an Historical Introduction to the Philosophy of Religion”
  • Kate Vredenburgh: Culture and Belief 31, “Saints, Heretics, and Atheists: an Historical Introduction to the Philosophy of Religion”
  • Will Tadros: Econ 10B, “Principles of Economics”
  • Thomas Pendlebury: Phil 139x, “Heidegger’s Being and Time”
  • Ewa Bigaj: Phil 188, “Philosophy and Literature: Proust”
  • Javier Caride: Phil 97, “Tutorial I, Empiricism, Evolution, and Ethics”
  • Noel Dominguez: Phil 97, “Tutorial I, Race and Racism”
  • Patricia Marechal: Phil 97, “Tutorial I, Pleasure in Plato and Aristotle”

In addition, James Doyle, Lecturer in Philosophy, received the Certificate of Excellence for Lecturers for his course Phil 6, “Ancient Ethics and Modern Morality."

The Department of Philosophy offers its warm congratulations to all of them and thanks them for continuing to promote excellence in the teaching of philosophy.
