Selim Berker appointed Alford Professor

The Department of Philosophy at Harvard University is pleased to announce the appointment of Selim Berker to the position of Alford Professor of Natural Religion, Moral Philosophy, and Civil Polity. Berker succeeds T.M. Scanlon in this position, who retired from the department in the spring of 2016.

The Alford Professor of Natural Religion, Moral Philosophy, and Civil Polity is among the oldest endowed chairs at Harvard University, having been first established in 1789. Past holders of the chair include Josiah Royce, Gerge Herbert Palmer, William Ernest Hocking, and Roderick Firth.

Selim Berker received his Ph.D. in philosophy from MIT in 2007. He also holds undergraduate and master's degrees in physics from Harvard. His primary research interests are in ethics and epistemology.
