- What do you like about studying philosophy at Harvard? Aside from the intrinsic value I find in the questions I get to study, what I love about philosophy is how it challenges me to grow as a critical thinker. Philosophy provides me with a lens through which I can know myself better because it pushes me to question my assumptions and engage with diverse ideas. Even if I’m unfamiliar with every niche topic, engaging with any philosophical question is fulfilling because it allows me to enter into dialogue with my community and gain new perspectives. I believe that anyone curious enough to engage with such questions is a great interlocutor to learn from. Philosophy values actively questioning what appears self-evident and objective more than simply memorizing arguments from notable historical philosophers. It’s also a field that reminds me to remain humble in my practice and keep an open mind. On campus, I am especially fortunate to surround myself with a community of passionate faculty and fellow students. The department nurtures a vibrant community that promotes collaborative learning and meaningful conversations both in and out of Emerson Hall. It’s not just about abstract theories but about creating rich discussions and connections. This dynamic environment has made my time here incredibly enriching. Studying philosophy is the best choice I’ve made during my time at Harvard.
