Kathrin von Allmen
Research interests: Political philosophy, Moral philosophy, Feminist philosophy, Ethics
Kathrin’s work lies at the intersection of political, moral, and social philosophy with a particular emphasis on climate justice and feminist philosophy. She also collaborates in interdisciplinary research to examine gender issues in philosophy. At Harvard, Kathrin is working on a project that explores responsibility for addressing climate harm within the climate policy context. The project focuses on two key questions: 1) How should the principle of ‘Common but Differentiated Responsibilities and Respective Capabilities’, which has been prominently advanced by the UNFCCC and serves as a core principle in climate treaties, be theorized? 2) How should the notion of ‘climate harm’ be conceptualized? The project then examines the policy implications that arise from the answers to these questions.
Before coming to Harvard, Kathrin was a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer at the University of Fribourg’s Environmental Sciences and Humanities Institute. Prior to that, she completed her PhD in philosophy at the University of Zurich.
